Senior Cong leaders from Odisha to meet Rahul in New Delhi today
New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: A decision on change of guard in Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) is likely after a meeting between Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and over 30 senior leaders from the state in New Delhi on Tuesday.
On being summoned by Congress high command, the senior leaders had left for Delhi the previous day.
Talking to media, former Congress MP Chandra Sekhar Sahu had said hectic discussion are on for rejuvenating and revamping OPCC for the last three to four months. “Rahul Gandhi had earlier held discussions with state leaders, following which three AICC observers were sent to Odisha on fact finding mission,” he said.
It is believed that Niranjan Patnaik enjoys the support of majority of leaders in Odisha Congress and he is likely to replace Prasad Harichandan. Senior Congress leader Kishore Chandra Patel said change in OPCC leadership is must and it should happen without any delay.
“In view of 2019 elections, there is a need to strengthen the party organisational set-up. There are also scores of other issues,” AICC official for Odisha Suvankar Sarkar said.
He, however, declined to comment on the possible change in OPCC president post.
