Bhubaneswar: The night temperature shot up across Odisha in last 24 hours amid the likelihood of a fresh low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal which may trigger rain in the state next week.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a cyclonic circulation has developed over the central parts of the Malacca Strait in the southeast Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form on Saturday, said Director of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre Manorama Mohanty

The system will then move west, northwest direction and likely intensify into a depression around November 24. The system is likely to trigger rainfall in the state.
The depression may continue to move in the west-northwest direction during the subsequent 48 hours and is likely to intensify further over the southwest Bay of Bengal.
Under its impact, several parts of Odisha are expected to experience rainfall from November 27. Some coastal and southern districts may receive heavy to very heavy rain during this period. This potential weather disturbance may influence the state during the last week of November.
However, the IMD has not yet predicted whether the system will intensify into a cyclonic storm.
Meanwhile, the night temperature rose in most parts of the state with G Udayagiri in Kandhamal recording 10.4 degrees Celsius on Friday morning. Phulbani, also in Kandhamal, recorded 12.5 degrees Celsius, while the temperature in Koraput stood at 11.5 degrees Celsius.
State capital Bhubaneswar recorded 19.2 degrees Celsius as against 21.8 degrees measured on Thursday. Bhubaneswar had recorded 15.2°C at 5.30 am on November 18, and 16.6°C on November 19
