New Delhi: The Crime Branch of Delhi Police claims to have made a major breakthrough by dismantling a major international arms trafficking module with direct links to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Four persons have been arrested in this connection. A number of sophisticated pistols and a large quantity of ammunition were seized during the operation conducted by a team led by DCP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.
The weapons were smuggled into the country from Pakistan using drones, indicating a highly modern and concerning method of cross-border infiltration, the police said.
“The seized consignment includes 10 high-end foreign-made semi-automatic pistols along with 92 live cartridges,” Special CP (Crime) Devesh Srivastava said.
Among the weapons seized are highly sophisticated Turkish-made PX-5.7 pistols. These high-end weapons are known to be used by Special Forces units. This underscores the serious nature and intended use of the trafficked arms.
The module was also found to be smuggling China-made PX-3 as well as Austria-made Glock pistols, further highlighting the diverse international origins of the weaponry being channelled by the ISI-linked network.
“The arrests and seizures are expected to provide critical leads in tracing the full extent of the network’s operations, its forward and backward linkages, and the individuals or groups who were the ultimate intended recipients of these deadly weapons,” Joint CP Surendra Kumar said.
The four have been identified as Ajay alias Monu, Dalvinder, Mandeep and Rohan.
The Punjab Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) have seized several consignments of such firearms in Punjab over the last several months. All of them were smuggled across the border from Pakistan, using drones.
These sophisticated weapons were allegedly intended to be used to create instability across several cities.
