Sundargarh: A Class XI boy of Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) died shortly after falling sick during the annual sports meet in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
The deceased has been identified as Jaydeep Beck, a resident of Bhawanipur village.
Sources said Jaydeep was participating in the 400-metre race on Tuesday when he became unwell and fainted on the track. He was immediately rushed to NTPC Medical College where doctors declared him dead.
Jaydeep had been a student at EMRS for 6 months after obtaining admission this year. During participation at the yearly EMRS Sports Meet, he became unconscious on the race track and breathed his last at the hospital subsequently.
This not an isolated incident in the state. Earlier this month, Dinesh Sabar who was a Class X student of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) at Nuapada collapsed and died while playing football on the school campus. Dinesh was engaged in a football match at the school playground in Tarbod in the district’s Komna block when he suddenly lost consciousness and fell on the ground. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. He was a national-level handball player.
