Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday said that Odisha is proud of its tribal art and culture and it is the responsibility of the state government to ensure its preservation and propagation.

He inaugurated newly constructed places in 3000 religious places and 400 culture Scheduled Tribe Clubs in the Special Development Council (SDC) areas in nine tribal-dominated districts by video conferencing at the State Secretariat here. He said the SDCs have done commendable work for the preservation of tribal art and culture in the last 10 months in the nine districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur.

He also informed that the state government has provided the artisan card to about 25,000 Scheduled Tribe artisans.

The SDCs in these nine districts formed in March 2018 have been working for the preservation and propagation of tribal art and culture. A total of 62 Scheduled Tribe communities and Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) are directly involved in these works.

The Chief Minister interacted with the Scheduled Tribe artisans and unveiled three news books—‘Demographic Profile of Scheduled Tribes in Odisha’, ‘Odisha State Tribal Museum’ and ‘Special Development Council’.

Among others, Planning and Convergence Minister Usha Devi, ST and SC Development Minister Ramesh Majhi, adviser to the state government on art and culture R. Balakrishnan, Development Commissioner Asit Kumar Tripathy, senior officials and well-known litterateurs were present at the meeting.
