Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is set to introduce a new law in the upcoming Assembly session in order to simplify land administration and resolve long-pending issues in the state.
Sharing this information on Monday, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari told reporters that the Odisha Government Land Settlement Bill will be tabled by the government in the next session of the Assembly.
The draft legislation is ready and a high-level meeting is being held on Monday to finalise it, he said, adding that the proposed law aims to bring all existing land and revenue-related laws under one clear legal framework.
The proposed measure is designed to remove legal confusion, speed up land settlement processes, and make the system more transparent, efficient, and people-friendly, said Pujari.
Regarding important features of the proposed law, the Minister said several existing revenue laws will be merged into a single Act, making land rules easier to understand and implement.
Noting that land problems in Puri are complex due to arrangements made during the British period, he said the government plans a careful and structured approach to resolve these historical issues. Land belonging to Lord Jagannath and land under municipal control is being closely examined to settle old disputes and prevent future encroachments.
The government will consult the Bar Association, Revenue Department, and legal experts to ensure the law is fair, legally strong, and acceptable to all stakeholders.
The government is keen to build a transparent and efficient land administration system by fixing old problems and bringing all land laws together into a unified framework, he added.
