Lucknow: The tragic death of a 27-year-old software engineer, after his car fell in a water-filled excavation pit amid dense fog in Noida, has shaken up the nation.
With his father, who helplessly watched son Yuvraj Mehta drown to his death, accusing authorities of grave negligence and FIRs being filed against two builders based on the family’s complaint, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took stern steps on Monday.
The state government sacked Noida Authority CEO M Lokesh. A 2005-batch IAS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, Lokesh was also relieved as the Managing Director of the Noida Metro Rail Corporation.
The CM also ordered the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) team to investigate the tragic death. Adityanath has sought a report in five days.
Following the CM’s instruction, a three-member SIT — under the leadership of Meerut’s Divisional Commissioner — was formed to probe the incident. The other members of the SIT are the ADG, Meerut Zone, and Chief Engineer, PWD.
Techie Yuvraj, employed in Gurugram and resident of Noida’s Tata Eureka Park, was returning home from work on a foggy Friday night when his car lost control and plunged into a 30-foot unbarricaded pit dug for the basement of an under-construction building near Sector 150 in Noida.
He screamed for help and managed to call his father to save him, but despite Fire department, local police, SDRF and NDRF personnel reaching the site, Yuvraj couldn’t be rescued.
His body was recovered early on Saturday next morning following a prolonged rescue operation.
