Bhubaneswar: A young woman has accused her live-in partner of sexually assaulting her without consent, prompting swift police action and the arrest of the suspect in Odisha capital.
The incident occurred in the Buddhanagar area under Laxmisagar police limits.
According to police sources, the survivor had been sharing a rented house with the accused, Bipin Sabat, in a live-in relationship. The woman approached Laxmisagar police and filed a formal written complaint, alleging that Sabat forcibly engaged in physical relationship against her will.
Based on her allegations, a case was registered under relevant sections of the law, including provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to rape and sexual assault. Police traced the accused to Bada Bazaar area of Brahmapur, from where he was arrested and later brought to Bhubaneswar for further interrogation.
The accused is expected to be produced before a local court on Wednesday.
Sources stated that the survivor underwent a medical examination, and her statement was formally recorded as part of the ongoing investigation. Further investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances of the incident and gather additional evidence.
