Mumbai: Even before the shocking news of Arijit Singh’s retirement from playback singing has fully sunk in, reports suggest that the singer is planning to foray into politics.
According to an NDTV report, Arijit is mulling launching his own political party and might eventually contest elections.
Sources, however told the news portal that the singer is not going to plunge into politics immediately and is unlikely to contest the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections.
Insiders from the Bengali film industry suggested that the singer will start his political career at the grassroots level, before thinking of contesting big elections.
Arijit’s team has reportedly started the groundwork for a possible political foray.
Arijit has always maintained a simple lifestyle in his hometown of Jiaganj in Murshidabad, West Bengal.
Despite being one of India’s highest-paid singers, Arijit is loved for being deeply connected to his roots.
Last week, Arijit left his fans shell-shocked by announcing his retirement from playback singing.
“I am calling it off, it was a wonderful journey,” he wrote on his social media handle.
