Bhubaneswar: Gopalpur Mahotsav 2026 concluded on Friday with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launching development projects worth over Rs 492 crore for Ganjam district.
Officials said the projects include health infrastructure, hostel facilities, road construction, and beautification of Gopalpur beach with Rs 32 crore investment.
The Chief Minister also announced steps for the restoration of ‘Upendra Bhanja Chair’ at Berhampur University and declared Upendra Bhanja’s birth anniversary as a state festival.
Majhi further stated that Gopalpur port expansion project is set to be implemented at a cost of over Rs 16,554 crore to boost cargo handling capacity to 50 million metric tons and create 5,000 jobs. A mega port at Bahuda, with Rs 21,500 crore investment, is also planned.
The Gopalpur Beach Festival, held from January 27 to 30, showcased Odisha’s coastal culture, traditions, food, and art, attracting visitors from across the state.
CM Majhi reaffirmed the state’s commitment to sustainable development and transforming Ganjam into an industrial hub. The event featured cultural programs, handicraft exhibitions, and local cuisine, promoting tourism in the region.
Prominent among those present at the event were Steel & Mines and Commerce & Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena, Khallikote MLA Purna Chandra Sethi, Aska MLA Saroj Kumar Padhi, Chhatrapur MLA Krushna Chandra Nayak, Kabisuryanagar MLA Pratap Chandra Nayak and Digpahandi MLA Sidhhant Mohapatra.
