Kendrapada: Three persons, identified as illegal Bangladeshi settlers in Odisha’s Kendrapada, were deported to their home country with the assistance of the Border Security Force (BSF).

The three infiltrators, including a woman, had been residing illegally in Kendrapada district for a long period. They were detected as foreign nationals following a detailed verification and scrutiny exercise conducted during November and December last year, officials said.

All three were illegally staying in Garapur village. They were identified as Muntaz Khan (65), Insaan Khan (59) and Ameena Bibi (70)

During questioning, the three claimed to be Indian citizens but failed to produce any valid documents to substantiate their claims. Investigation conducted subsequently confirmed their Bangladeshi nationality.

Following the confirmation, the deportation was carried out in accordance with directives issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Odisha Police personnel formally handed over the three individuals to the BSF at a designated border station, from where they were sent back to Bangladesh.

Sources further stated that the Intelligence Bureau (IB), in coordination with the Odisha Police, played a crucial role in identifying the infiltrators and facilitating their deportation.

With this, the number of persons deported to Bangladesh increased to 52. However, the police were yet to confirm the number of persons deported from coastal Jagatsinghpur district.

Earlier in December last year, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the state Assembly that 49 people were deported to Bangladesh since the BJP formed the government in Odisha in June, 2024. According to Majhi’s statement, 24 Bangladeshi infiltrators from Urban Police District (UPD)-Bhubaneswar in Khurda district, 15 from UPD-Cuttack, six from Ganjam district, three from Kandhamal and one from Koraput district were deported following a legal process till December 1, 2025.

Another three persons have now been deported, taking their number to 52 so far, officials said.
