Ahmedabad/New Delhi: Humour is the last thing one expects from the police. No wonder, people were surprised to read some quirky exchanges between the men in uniform from Delhi, Ahmedabad and Uttar Pradesh, even as Team India trounced New Zealand to lift the ICC T20I World Cup on Sunday evening.
Even as Indian batsmen continued to send balls sailing into the stands, the Delhi Police warned the Ahmedabad Police about receiving “missing ball complaints” from the Kiwis.
Ahmedabad Police, in turn, took the matter very “seriously”, as reported by timesnow.in.
“You may get ball disappearance complaints from Kiwis. No need to take it seriously, it’s our batsmen sending them to the stands,” the Delhi Police wrote.
The deadpan response by Ahmedabad Police was equally brilliant: “Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The matter has been reported to the Higher Police officials.”
With India in full control at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad by then, the exchange quickly went viral.
The UP Police soon joined in with a special status update.
“CASE STATUS UPDATE Earlier complaint: Ball going missing.
New complaint: Entire batting lineup going missing.Our assessment: This is not a law & order problem.
This is Bumrah,” the UP Police posted on X.
While the ‘Men in Black’ came in for a hammering, no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the country during the celebrations that followed.
New Zealand won the toss and put India to bat. The Indian batters made the Kiwis pay for the decision as they ended up with a mammoth score of 255-5.
New Zealand were all out for 159, thanks to wonderful performances by Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel.
