Kuwait City: Kuwait International Airport came under multiple Iranian drone strikes on Saturday, sustaining serious damage to its radar system, according to the state‑run Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
Abdullah Al‑Rajhi, spokesperson for Kuwait’s Public Authority for Civil Aviation, confirmed to KUNA that the airport was targeted by several drones, which heavily damaged its radar setup. Authorities, as quoted by AFP, stressed that there were no reported casualties, but the impairment of the radar system is expected to affect flight monitoring and air‑traffic management.
This incident follows a similar attack on March 25, when Iranian drones struck a fuel tank at the same airport, triggering a massive blaze. Emergency services managed to bring the blaze under control, and officials reported only material damage and no injuries. Kuwait’s National Guard later stated it had intercepted six drones during that earlier assault.
The latest strike has prompted renewed airspace reviews and heightened security measures at the airport, with several flights being delayed or rerouted.
Trade and logistics hubs have also come under strain. Shuwaikh Port, Kuwait’s main commercial maritime gateway handling cargo, distribution, and storage, has been hit in recent days, further disrupting regional trade flows
Kuwait hosts major US military installations, including Camp Arifjan, Ali al‑Salem Air Base, and Camp Buehring, and is home to about 13,500 American troops, according to the London‑based Middle East Eye.
