Bhubaneswar: Veteran film producer, industrialist, and social worker Rabi Swain breathed his last on Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 75.
According to sources, Swain passed away around 6 am. He had been suffering from liver cirrhosis and was under medical care for the past few days.
Swain, hailing from Pipili in Puri district, left a lasting mark on the Odia film industry as a producer of several well-received films. His notable productions include Jor Jar Mulak Tar (directed by Raju Mishra), Ki Heba Sua Posile (directed by Basant Sahu), Panjuri Bhitare Sari, and Udandi Sita (both directed by Avtar Singh). These movies earned significant appreciation across Odisha for their storytelling and cultural resonance.
Beyond cinema, Swain was a successful entrepreneur and educationist who contributed substantially to the region’s development. He established key institutions such as the Kshetramohan Memorial Trust, Om Shanti College of Science and Technology, Kshetramohan ITC, and Daitari ITC, which have supported education, skill development, and community welfare in Odisha.
Tributes have begun pouring in from the Odia film fraternity, industry leaders, and local residents, who remember him as a multifaceted personality dedicated to both entertainment and social service. Details regarding his last rites are expected to be announced soon.
