Bhubaneswar: A self-styled choreographer has been arrested in Odisha capital for allegedly peddling brown sugar on Lewis Road under Badagada police limits.
Acting on a tip-off, the Excise Department laid a trap and apprehended the accused, identified as Prabhu Prakash Patra (40), on Monday. Around 180 gram of heroin valued at Rs 18 lakh was seized from his possession. “Patra posed as a dance teacher and choreographer, but primarily worked as a drug dealer. He was previously involved in a brown sugar peddling case and was under scanner,” excise superintendent Debasish Patel told a local news channel.
A two-wheeler, allegedly used in the offence, was also seized.
In another anti-narcotic operation, a man from West Bengal was arrested while attempting to smuggle a substantial quantity of ganja through Bhubaneswar railway station. He has been identified as Bhuban Chandra Pradhan, a native of East Medinipur. “The scanner at the railway station caught the bag containing ganja. The accused was carrying 8.10 kg ganja from Ganjam to West Bengal. Further investigation is underway,” IIC of GRP station Ashok Gochayat told a local news channel.
