Bhubaneswar: There’s no respite for Odisha from the intense heatwave conditions prevailing in several parts of India.
For the second time in three days, as many as 12 places in Odisha recorded maximum temperatures above 42 degrees Celsius on Sunday, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data. And, like on Friday, Jharsuguda sizzled the most — at 44.8 degrees!
The other places which boiled at 42 degrees-plus were Sonepur (43.7), Titlagarh (43.6), Bhawanipatna (43.4), Balangir (43.1), Sambalpur (43), Boudh (43), Sundargarh (42.8), Rourkela (42.7), Nuapada (42.5), Hirakud (42.4), Nayagarh (42.5).
At least four other places saw the mercury rise to 40 degrees.
Not a drop of rainfall and fairly high humidity made it unbearable across these places in Odisha.
Bhubaneswar and Cuttack were relatively better off with maximum temperatures of 35.5 and 35 respectively.
The seaside town of Puri was the ‘coolest’ in the state, with a high of 32.1 degrees Celsius.
