Beijing: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing on Wednesday, where he firmly articulated Iran’s commitment to securing a thorough and equitable resolution to the ongoing West Asia conflict emphasizing Tehran’s unyielding pursuit of comprehensive peace amid escalating regional tensions.
“We will only accept a fair and comprehensive agreement,” Araghchi declared during the meeting.
He thanked China for its position, particularly its criticism of the United States and Israel, and hailed Beijing as a steadfast ally of Tehran. In the current scenario, he added, their partnership would grow even tighter, as reported by The Economic Times.
“The war that has been launched against us is a blatant act of aggression and a clear violation of international law. We will do our utmost to protect our legitimate rights and interests in the negotiations,” he said.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for an immediate and total halt to hostilities in West Asia.
According to Iranian semi-official news agency ISNA, Wang Yi remarked: “We are ready to continue our efforts to reduce tensions. Establishing a complete ceasefire is necessary and inevitable.”
Wang Yi further urged face-to-face discussions between the parties involved, observing that the region stands at a pivotal moment.
These Beijing discussions came via a formal invitation from Wang Yi and align with Araghchi’s Telegram post terming them as Tehran’s “ongoing diplomatic consultations” with key international players. A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson verified that the ministers exchanged perspectives on the geopolitical landscape, zeroing in on West Asia’s worsening crisis.
Araghchi’s China stop concludes a whirlwind tour of Pakistan, Oman, and Russia aimed at building backing during regional unrest. In St. Petersburg, he conferred with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who committed that Moscow would spare “everything in its power” to broker a swift peace deal, while decrying the “war and aggression” tied to the U.S. and Israel.
Beyond aligning with global heavyweights, Araghchi’s itinerary tackled pressing security matters like maritime routes. In Muscat, he discussed the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that Iran and Oman, as littoral nations, must consult closely since “safe passage through the Strait has become a significant global issue.”
Such moves in Beijing and elsewhere signal Tehran’s drive to enlist regional and worldwide allies as it counters escalating rivalries over critical sea lanes and sway in the area.
