Kolkata: Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday expressed confidence that police would solve the murder of his aide Chandranath Rath, stating the investigation was “heading in the right direction”.
Adhikari went to Barasat Hospital once Rath’s post-mortem examination was conducted. “Police are working. I spoke with the DGP; they have leads, and some people have been rounded up. I am confident the police will be able to arrest the assailants. CID, forensic and SIT are in action, and police are heading in the right direction,” he said to journalists waiting outside.
Adhikari insisted that law enforcement is capable of resolving these cases, yet claimed “they were not allowed” before — a clear swipe at the TMC administration.
In response to the TMC’s call for a CBI probe into the killing, Adhikari rejected it outright, declaring, “There is no relevance of TMC now. Police will be able to solve this.” Other senior BJP figures, Samik Bhattacharya and Rahul Sinha, had also come to the hospital.
According to police, motorcycle assailants halted Rath’s vehicle near Doltala in Madhyamgram around 10:30 pm on Wednesday, shooting him point-blank before speeding off.
