Rourkela: Police have arrested a man in his late twenties after he allegedly assaulted a filling station manager with a high-voltage stun gun and threatened staff and customers while demanding priority service for petrol on Tuesday.
According to a complaint filed by petrol pump proprietor Hersh Gupta at the RN Pali police station, the accused, identified as Shabaz Hussain, arrived at the Deogaon petrol station in a car around 10 am. He reportedly grew impatient, began abusing a saleswoman, and issued threats. When the station manager intervened to calm the situation, Hussain allegedly became abusive, and assaulted the former with an ultra high-voltage ‘Direct Current 928 Type’ stun gun, leaving him unconscious. He simultaneously threatened to destroy the filling station if fuel was not provided on priority.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, police arrested Hussain and seized his vehicle along with the prohibited stun gun device. He has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) — including 296, 118(1), 109(1), and 351(3) — as well as Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
The incident comes at a time when parts of Rourkela have faced intermittent fuel shortages and rationing at pumps in recent weeks, leading to longer queues and customer frustration among people in the Steel City.
