Silchar/Guwahati: An Assam farmer who was allegedly abducted by Bangladeshi miscreants from near the India-Bangladesh border in Cachar district was safely handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) following coordinated efforts and high-level talks between the two sides.
The farmer, identified as Ranjit Das, was reportedly working on agricultural land near the “zero line” along the international border when a group of Bangladeshi miscreants allegedly crossed over and abducted him on Tuesday morning. According to reports, the incident took place near the Surma River in Assam’s border region.
Local residents and family members raised the alarm after Das was taken across the border. BSF personnel rushed to the area, but the alleged abductors had already escaped by boat into Bangladesh. The incident triggered concern and tension among villagers living in the border belt.
Following the abduction, a flag meeting was held between the BSF and the BGB. While initial discussions did not immediately secure Das’s release, the matter was escalated to senior officials from both countries. Subsequent negotiations resulted in Bangladeshi authorities agreeing to facilitate his return.
On Wednesday, the BGB rescued the farmer and formally handed him over to the BSF, bringing an end to hours of uncertainty. The prompt coordination between the two border forces ensured his safe return and helped ease tensions in the area.
Local legislators and public representatives had been closely monitoring developments and pressing for the farmer’s safe return.
