Balasore: In a shocking incident, a man was killed and his wife grievously injured following an attack by a group over a trivial issue at a village in Odisha’s Balasore district on Sunday.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place at Shankarpur village under the jurisdiction of Sadar Police Station. The incident took place over an alleged dispute pertaining to a coconut tree.
The injured man was rushed to hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries at Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital. His wife, who was also injured in the attack, was undergoing treatment.
Sources said the attack was triggered by differences over plucking coconuts from a tree. Victim’s younger brother reportedly hired individuals to attack his elder brother and sister-in-law, locals claimed.
Three attackers allegedly targeted the couple with sharp-edged weapons, causing severe injuries.
After receiving information, police launched an investigation and began efforts to trace the accused younger brother. Efforts are also on to identify and trace the three alleged attackers.
