Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorms coupled with heavy rain is likely to occur in several parts of Odisha during the next four days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.
While conditions are favourable for the progress of southwest monsoon into more parts of the state, thunderstorm activity is likely to continue over the next few days in many areas.
In its midday weather bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar issued an orange warning of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 50-60 kmph) over the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, and Ganjam during the next 24 hours.
On the other hand, heatwave and warm night conditions are likely to prevail at isolated places over the district of Sambalpur.
The weather agency has predicted heavy rainfall at some places over the districts of Rayagada and Koraput during the period.
A yellow warning has also been issued the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Nabrangpur, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh.
While heatwave conditions are likely to prevail at isolated places over the district of Jharsuguda, hot and humid weather will prevail at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh.
On June 22-23, the IMD issued an orange warning of thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 50-60 kmph) over the districts of Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
Heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places over the district of Koraput, Gajapati, and Ganjam during the subsequent two days.
According to the MeT Centre, thunderstorm activity is expected to continue till the morning of June 26 in several parts of the state.
