New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday, decided to remain back at the Delhi airport for nearly 45 minutes so as not to inconvenience NEET UG 2026 candidates who were on their way to exam centres.

PM Modi landed in Delhi from Kolkata around 1.15 pm. Under normal protocol, he was supposed to leave the airport immediately for his residence. However, this would have led to traffic restrictions along the route.

The Prime Minister decided to wait at the airport till 2 pm before starting for home. By then, the re-examination had started, as reported by timesnow.in.

Nearly 23 lakh NEET UG 2026 candidates have already been inconvenienced due to a paper leak that was discovered after they sat for the exam on May 3.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) that is responsible for the examination for admission to medical and dental colleges across the country, cancelled the examination and announced a re-test on June 21.

On Sunday, the NEET-UG re-examination began at centres across the country and overseas amid tight security arrangements.

The re-examination is being conducted across 5,440 centres in 551 cities in India and 14 centres abroad. It is being conducted in English and 12 Indian languages. According to NTA, more than 95,000 examination rooms have been equipped with CCTV surveillance.
Officials said that a total of 1,38,560 CCTV cameras have been installed, with feeds monitored virtually at the national, state and ministry levels. To secure the examination against electronic malpractice, 51,311 jammers have been deployed.

While some fresh allegations have been raised regarding paper leaks, the NTA has refuted them.
