Indore: The family of Raja Raghuvanshi has decided to approach the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of the bail granted to the prime accused, Sonam Raghuvanshi, in the sensational Meghalaya honeymoon murder case.
The move comes a day after the Meghalaya High Court upheld an earlier order granting bail to Sonam, rejecting the state government’s plea challenging the decision.
Raja’s elder brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, said the family would soon initiate the process of filing a petition before the apex court. “We will appeal to the Supreme Court for cancellation of Sonam’s bail,” he said, expressing disappointment over the High Court’s verdict.
The Meghalaya High Court upheld the bail after observing procedural lapses by the investigating agency during Sonam’s arrest. According to the court, arrest-related documents incorrectly cited the relevant provision of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, leading to a violation of statutory safeguards. The detailed judgment is awaited.
Sonam Raghuvanshi is the main accused in the alleged murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during the couple’s honeymoon in Meghalaya in May 2025. Investigators have alleged that she conspired with her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, and hired contract killers to murder Raja. A chargesheet has already been filed, and the trial is currently underway.
The victim’s family has consistently opposed Sonam’s release on bail, maintaining that the seriousness of the allegations warrants her continued custody. With the High Court refusing to interfere in the bail order, the family is now pinning its hopes on the Supreme Court to overturn the decision.
