New Delhi: In a significant relief to BJP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the removal social media posts that it found to be prima facie defamatory.
The order was passed by a single-judge bench on Chadha’s plea seeking protection against allegedly defamatory, AI-generated, deepfake and manipulated content circulated online after his recent political switch. Chadha argued that the posts had seriously harmed his reputation and violated his personality and publicity rights.
Following the ruling, Chadha’s legal team, led by senior advocate Rajiv Nayar, welcomed the decision, calling it an important step in protecting individuals from organised defamatory campaigns on social media. The counsel said the order recognised the need to curb defamatory content while balancing free speech.
The case stems from Chadha’s petition alleging that fabricated and AI-manipulated videos, morphed images, synthetic voice recordings and other online material falsely portrayed him in a damaging manner after his political realignment.
