Bhawanipatna: A critically ill minor girl died allegedly after an ambulance carrying her broke down on the way to a hospital in Odisha’s Kalahandi district Thursday.
Sources said the 11-year-old girl was initially admitted to a Community Health Centre (CHC) at Narla after she complained of health complications.
Subsequently, she was referred to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at Bhawanipatna after her condition deteriorated.
However, the ambulance transporting the girl encountered a flat tyre on the way to the DHH. The ambulance reportedly remained stuck for around three hours midway, causing further deterioration in her health.
The girl was finally declared dead on arrival by the doctors at the DHH. Her family members have blamed poor ambulance service for her death.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage among local residents, who alleged gross negligence in the maintenance of emergency ambulance services and demanded strict action against those responsible for the lapse.
