Bhubaneswar: A court in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district on Thursday sentenced a man to rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 20 years for abducting and raping a minor girl last year.
The court of the Additional District Judge of Nabarangpur also imposed a penalty of Rs 30,000 on convict Duryadhan Goud of Dasmantpur area in Koraput district.
He will undergo imprisonment for one more year in case of non-payment of the penalty amount, the court said in its order.
As per the case records, the minor girl went missing while on her way to Bali Yatra fair in Tentulikhunti area of Nabarangpur on May 17, 2025. Following her disappearance, the girl’s family members had lodged a complaint in this regard with Khatiguda police.
Based on the complaint, police conducted an investigation and rescued the minor girl. The accused was also arrested
After examining 18 witnesses and the evidence gathered by the police during the investigation, the court pronounced its judgement, according to public prosecutor Mrutyunjaya Maharana.
The court has also asked the District Legal Services Authority to provide Rs 10.5 lakh compensation to the victim.
