Puri/Bhubaneswar: With lakhs of devotees making beeline for Puri to witness the world-famous Rath Yatra on Thursday, the Odisha Police and the state’s Commerce and Transport Department have implemented extensive traffic management and pilgrim support initiatives to ensure safe and hassle-free journeys.
Real-time traffic updates are being prominently displayed through LED vans and screens for devotees traveling to Puri from Bhubaneswar. LED displays have been installed at key locations such as Uttara Square and other major points in Bhubaneswar, allowing travellers to receive live information on road conditions and plan their routes more efficiently.
In coordination with Puri Police, advanced arrangements have been made to manage congestion and streamline vehicular movement along the Bhubaneswar-Puri route. Enforcement teams equipped with Intelligent Enforcement Management Systems (IEMS) are actively monitoring traffic violations, while breakdown services and cranes stand ready at strategic points to provide immediate assistance to stranded vehicles.
Special focus has been placed on vulnerable pilgrims. Dedicated assistance centres at Malatipatpur and Talabania offer tailored support for Divyang (persons with disabilities) and senior citizens, featuring wheelchairs, bio-toilets, rest areas, drinking water, and first-aid services. Free shuttle bus and e-rickshaw services have also been arranged to help these devotees reach their destinations comfortably.
Temporary rest sheds have been set up at multiple locations, complemented by arrangements for free distribution of cooked food. Dedicated help desks and information centres are operational to guide pilgrims and address their needs throughout the journey.
Officials have urged travellers to stay updated through official channels and follow traffic advisories for a memorable and secure Rath Yatra experience.
