Puri: In an effort to ensure smooth and convenient travel for devotees during the Rath Yatra, the government of Odisha is providing free shuttle auto-rickshaw service in Puri.
As many as 41 shuttle auto tokens have been issued to provide seamless last mile connectivity for pilgrims along the Sterling Square – Lighthouse Square route.
The facility, launched by the Commerce and Transport department, provides connectivity from designated parking areas to key access points near the festival venue.
According to the department, 3,990 devotees had availed the free shuttle auto service by 12 noon on Thursday.
Of the designated parking sites, Talabania Parking recorded the highest number of passengers, with 2,650 devotees using the service. This was followed by Sterling Parking, where 1,200 passengers availed the facility, while 140 devotees travelled from Samang Parking.
“I am extremely delighted to inaugurate the ‘Free Auto Service’ at Puri Talabania Thana during the occasion of the world-famous Rath Yatra, to make the journey of devotees more convenient and comfortable. Our goal is to transport the devotees coming for the famous festival procession to their destinations with ease. Our people’s government is always dedicated to serving the world leaders and the devotees of Lord Jagannath,” Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena said..
Additionally, the department has also made arrangements for providing special assistance to Divyang persons, senior citizens, and other needy devotees, helping them travel safely and comfortably to the Rath Yatra venue.
The initiative is aimed at reducing congestion, improving last-mile connectivity, and ensuring a hassle-free travel experience for the lakhs of devotees visiting Puri during the annual festival in the pilgrim town, said officials.
The department reiterated its commitment to providing efficient transport services and enhancing commuter convenience throughout the Rath Yatra celebrations.
