Sundargada: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday apprehended Anita Jena, Revenue Inspector of Kalosihira Circle under Kuarmunda Tehsil in Sundargarh district, while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000.
According to the Vigilance sources, the complainant had applied for a land demarcation report concerning his ancestral property several months ago. Despite repeated follow-ups, Jena allegedly delayed the issuance of the report without any valid reason and eventually demanded Rs 4,000 as a bribe to process the file.
Frustrated by the harassment, the applicant approached the Vigilance authorities. Acting on the complaint, a Vigilance team laid a trap and caught Jena while accepting the bribe money from the complainant. The entire amount of Rs 4,000 was recovered from her possession and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at three locations linked to the accused Revenue Inspector to ascertain whether she has accumulated assets disproportionate to her known sources of income. A case has been registered at Rourkela Vigilance police station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 and further investigation is underway.
