Hyderabad: A shocking crime was committed in Hyderabad recently, leading to the arrest of a cab driver.
The 23-year-old showed his lecherous instincts by raping a cabin crew member of a private airline when she was travelling to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport for duty, police said.
The female airline staff boarded the airline-arranged vehicle from her Shamsabad residence around 2.40 pm on July 20, but little did she know what was in store.
The driver allegedly diverted the vehicle to a secluded location near an under-construction site close to the airport. He opened the back door and sexually assaulted the victim by force inside the vehicle, ignoring the woman’s resistance and screams.
Once the woman managed to escape the driver’s clutches, she alerted workers at the nearby construction site. The culprit drove away on seeing a group of people approaching.
A case was registered under relevant provisions of the BNS.
The accused, identified as Errapogu Prashanth Kumar of Telangana’s Rangareddy district, was traced and arrested the next day.
He confessed to the crime during interrogation, and was produced before a local court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Police said they have asked the airline to review safety protocols governing employee transportation, particularly for female staff travelling to and from the airport.
