New Delhi: Amid the students protest led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and the indefinite hunger strike by Sonam Wangchuk, the Central government has been trying to address the core issues of NEET paper leak and irregularities in national-level exams.

A video clip was circulated on social media which showed Defence Minister Rajnath Singh making threatening remarks against student protesters.

It looked odd that such a senior minister in Narendra Modi’s Union cabinet can make such comments at a time when the Prime Minister himself said, in his first remarks on the NEET issue, that strong action was taken against those involved in the “grave sin” of paper leaks so that no one plays with the future of the youth.

On Thursday, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) issued a fact-check to debunk the claim made in the viral video clip.

It was a Pakistani propaganda network that falsely circulated an AI-generated video claiming that Rajnath had threatened students.

The Fact Check Unit shared the original, unedited video of the Defence Minister to counter the false claims.

“The video is fake and AI-generated. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh did not make any such statement regarding the Delhi protest,” the Fact Check Unit said in a post on X.

The PIB urged people not to share unverified content and advised citizens to report suspicious posts related to the Indian government to the PIB Fact Check Unit.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Defence Minister said that the government would ensure “nothing unfair” is done to students as he sought to reassure those protesting over the paper leak controversy linked to the NEET-UG 2026.

Accusing Opposition parties of attempting to use the students as a political tool, Rajnath said: “The ongoing protests in Delhi are a matter of serious concern. It is extremely unfortunate that some people are attempting to use the students and youth of our country as a political tool to fulfil their political interests.”
