Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Thursday apprehended a junior clerk-cum-record keeper and a driver of Brahmagiri Tehsil of Puri district for allegedly taking Rs 20,000 bribe for a plot demarcation work.
The accused have been identified as junior clerk & record keeper Narendra Kumar Sahoo, and driver Jitendra Kumar Sahoo. They were caught taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 from an applicant for issuing and serving notices in connection with demarcation of his plot.
A few days back, Narendra Kumar had taken Rs 8,000- from the applicant to initiate steps required for plot demarcation. The applicant had applied online for this on April 3, 2026 as per rules of the state government in R&DM Department. Even after taking Rs 8,000, record keeper Sahoo was not initiating the process. Instead, he demanded Rs 20,000 from the applicant.
Being aggrieved by the demanded bribe, the applicant approached the vigilance authorities narrating his harassment the record keeper. Following the complaint, a team of Vigilance nabbed Narendra Kumar Sahoo, and Jitendra Kumar Sahoo, while taking Rs 20,000 from the complainant in the former’s office room. The entire tainted bribe money has been recovered from their possession and seized.
Following the successful trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations linked to Narendra Kumar Sahoo from Disproportionate Assets angle. A case has been registered and investigation is underway.
Notably, Narendra Sahoo was arrested earlier in a trap case for taking bribe Rs 18,000 for conversion of agricultural land to homestead land, Vigilance said in a statement.
