Balangir: In a shocking incident, a police team was allegedly attacked while attempting to apprehend an accused person at Kantabanji in Odisha’s Balangir district on Sunday.
According to sources, the incident took place in Goru Bazar Pada area of Kantabanji, where a group of people reportedly assaulted police personnel and vandalised an official vehicle.
The police team had been to the area to arrest an individual involved in a crime when several locals surrounded cops and prevented them from carrying out the operation. The situation soon turned violent as the mob allegedly attacked the police personnel and damaged their vehicle.
One police personnel reportedly sustained injuries and was immediately shifted to hospital for treatment. His condition is reported to be stable.
Police have detained two persons in connection with the assault on the police team and damage to government property. A detailed investigation has been launched to identify and apprehend others involved in the incident.
Police are examining the circumstances that led to the confrontation and are gathering evidence to determine the role of each suspect.
