Mumbai: Actor Vijay Varma has reacted to content creator Dolly Singh calling him a “red flag” during a recent on-stage interaction.
The remark appeared to catch the actor off guard, prompting him to respond by calling it a “terrible compliment.”
The incident took place during the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2026, where Vijay won the Best Performance award for his role in ‘Matka King’.
While Vijay was on stage to receive the trophy, Dolly congratulated him and spoke about his reputation for portraying intense and morally complex characters.
She said Vijay’s presence in a film or show often makes viewers wonder who is in trouble and what his character might do next.
Dolly then jokingly referred to Vijay as the “nation’s biggest red flag”, pointing to his on-screen image.
Vijay responded to the remark with his own dose of humour.
“Just buy a piece of red cloth and keep it at home, and make as many flags as you want,” Vijay said.
Dolly was quick to respond, dismissing his comeback as a “lame joke.”
Vijay then delivered another witty remark, saying, “Just as I let go of your terrible compliments aside.”
After the video surfaced on social media, several users reacted to the exchange, with some questioning Dolly’s choice of words and calling the comment inappropriate.
“This was so awkward to watch,” a user wrote.
“You reap what you sow🔥,” added another.
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Vijay was last seen in Nagraj Manjule’s crime drama Matka King.
