New York: US President Donald Trump has shared an apparently AI-made video showing an army of armed, muscular “Donald Ducks” guarding the shores of “Lake America”.
The video, posted on Saturday, shows Canada geese with human arms, guns and Trump’s famous blond hairstyle. The 34-second clip is set to the theme from Hawaii Five-O. It shows the geese marching near the lake before firing into the air as fireworks light up the sky over a city that appears to be Toronto.
Trump Changes Lake Sign
Hours later, Trump shared another AI-made video from his golf course in Virginia. It shows him knocking down a “Welcome to Lake Ontario” sign and putting up a new sign that says “Welcome to Lake America”. He then dances to the Village People song “YMCA”.
The posts came after Trump ordered US government departments to use the name “Lake America” for Lake Ontario. The lake lies between the United States and Canada, as reported by the Independent.
Trump had earlier said that the US was giving “serious consideration” to changing the lake’s name. He also shared a TikTok video showing him using a Sharpie to mark a map of the lake.
“We’re gonna make a little change; we’re gonna call it something different than Lake Ontario,” the 80-year-old president said.
On Thursday, Trump signed an executive order telling federal agencies to use “Lake America” in official documents and records. The move was similar to his earlier decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America”.
Canada Rejects Name
Trump can decide what name US federal agencies use. However, he cannot force Canada, private organisations or US states to use the new name.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney rejected Trump’s decision in a post on X.
“The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means ‘the lake is beautiful, the lake is big,’” he wrote. “The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.”
“We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms,” he added. “Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.”
Trade Tensions Rise
Relations between the two countries have worsened since Trump returned to office. He has repeatedly said Canada should become the “51st state”.
On August 22, the US imposed 50 per cent tariffs on about $20 billion worth of Canadian goods. Washington accused Canada of treating US companies unfairly.
Carney denied the charge and compared the tariffs to an act of war. Canada then imposed tariffs of up to 50 per cent on several US products.
Trump also attacked Ontario Premier Doug Ford, calling him a “blustering ‘flunky’” who must “fall in line”.
Ford called Trump a “dictator,” a “bully” and the “king of bankruptcies”, and told him to “kiss my a**.”
