New York: A 17-year-old girl, Sarah Lindsey Santiago, who is a student from North Carolina is making headlines for her involvement in the May 18 fatal shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego. A grand jury in North Carolina on Monday her on suspicion of aiding and abetting the shooting, reported Reuters. At least three people were killed in the shooting. According to reports, she has been indicted for recording and disseminating a live video of the attack.
Reports claim that the prosecutors have alleged that she consented prior to the assault to broadcast the massacre live, share the recording widely, and publish the gunmen’s manifesto.
But who is Sarah Lindsey Santiago?
The teenager was among three persons, who viewed the gunmen’s livestream of the assault. She recorded the livestream, shared the writings of the gunmen, and distributed both, according to Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O’Neill, reported NY Post.
Though initially she faced the prospect of spending only a few years in the juvenile justice system because of her age at the time of the incident, prosecutors expressed growing concerns as they evaluated the gravity of the charges.
Authorities claimed that the assailants aimed to “kill as many people as possible that day” and sought to disseminate their actions and ideology to a broader audience.
