Bhubaneswar: In a major relief for vehicles owners, the Odisha government has relaxed the penalties for violation of rules pertaining to valid Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC).
Under the revised penalty structure, motorcycle riders caught without a valid PUCC for the first time will have to pay a fine of Rs 1,000. The penalty will rise to Rs 2,000 for a second offence, Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena said on Wednesday.
For three-wheelers, the fine has been fixed at Rs 1,000 for the first offence and Rs 2,000 for the second offence.
Revised penalties for other vehicles:
Tractors and trailers: Rs 2,000 for the first offence and Rs 5,000 for the second.
Motor cabs: Rs 2,000 for the first offence and Rs 5,000 for the second.
Cars and jeeps: Rs 2,000 for the first offence and Rs 5,000 for the second.
Other vehicles: Rs 3,000 for the first offence and Rs 6,000 for the second.
The minister also said that vehicles with e-challans pending for more than 90 days will not be eligible for issuance of a PUCC.
The state government has also raised concern over the large number of vehicles without valid insurance. According to the information shared by the minister, around 40 lakh vehicles in Odisha currently do not have insurance.
Transport authorities have been directed to intensify enforcement against vehicles operating without insurance. He also appealed to vehicle owners to obtain insurance immediately and comply with the mandatory requirements.
