Puri: Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri will remain closed for public darshan for five hours on Friday night as certain special rituals related to Krushna Janma Niti are slated to be performed on the occasion of Janmashtami.

The announcement about suspension of public darshan was made by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).

“On Friday, 4 September 2026, on the occasion of Bhadraba Krushna Ashtami tithi, Krushna Janma Niti will be performed at Shree Jagannatha Temple. Accordingly, public darshan will remain temporarily suspended from approximately 7 pm to 12 midnight, i.e from the commencement of the Sandhya Dhupa Bhoga Chheka and continuing until the completion of Krushna Janma Niti,” the notice issued by the SJTA said.

The administration clarified that the restriction will begin from the commencement of the Sandhya Dhupa Bhoga Chheka and will continue till the completion of the Krushna Janma Niti rituals. Devotees have been requested to plan their visit accordingly.

While Janmashtami rituals will be observed at the 12th century shrine on September 4, the celebrations will continue with Nandotsav on September 5, marking the beginning of the traditional Krishna Leela rituals.
