Bhubaneswar: With the formation of a fresh low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, heavy to extremely heavy rain is likely to batter several districts of Odisha over the next four days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday.
The low-pressure area, which formed ver North Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood in the morning, persisted at the same region. Under its influence, heavy rainfall will be witnessed in many districts of Odisha. The IMD has issued red, orange and yellow warnings for different districts till the morning of September 13.
In its weather bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar issued a red warning of heavy to extremely heavy rain over the districts of Kalahandi, and Kandhamala during the next 24 hours.
Similarly, an orange warning has been issued for Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, and Ganjam, where heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur during the same period.
Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 40-50 kmph) may occur at some places over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam.
A yellow warning of heavy rain has been issued for the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Nuapada, and Balangir,
On September 11-12, an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain has been issued for the districts of Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Koraput., while thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind may occur in Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput.
A yellow warning has been sounded for the districts of Nuapada, Balangir, Kandhamala, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Gajapati, and Ganjam., where heavy rain may take place during the period.

On September 12-13, a yellow warning of heavy rain has been issued for the districts of Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, and Gajapati.
Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind may occur in Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada.
The IMD has forecast squally winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph and gusting up to 60 kmph over the North and Central Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours. Similar conditions are expected along and off the coasts of Bangladesh, West Bengal, Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh.
Sea conditions are also likely to remain rough to very rough over the North and Central Bay of Bengal during the same period.
The weather agency has advised fishermen not to venture into the North and Central Bay of Bengal and along and off the coasts of Bangladesh, West Bengal, Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh for the next 48 hours.
