Bhubaneswar: Odisha has made big strides in respect to electric mobility transition, emerging as a ‘Frontrunner’ among large states in the Indian Electric Mobility Index (IEMI) 2025.
Odisha secured an overall score of 55 in IEMI 2025, unveiled during the State EV Policies Review and Recalibration meet convened by NITI Aayog in New Delhi recently.
The state scored 58 in Transport Electrification Progress and 57 in Charging Infrastructure Readiness, two areas which are particularly relevant to urban mobility, placing it in the Frontrunner category in both parameters.
This marks an improvement over IEMI 2024, when Odisha secured an overall score of 49 and ranked seventh nationally. This time, though, Odisha slipped one place to eighth in national ranking.
“Odisha’s recognition as a Frontrunner in the Indian Electric Mobility Index reflects our commitment to building a cleaner, greener and future-ready transport system. We are steadily expanding electric public transport, strengthening charging infrastructure and creating an enabling ecosystem for wider EV adoption. Our focus is to ensure that the transition to electric mobility contributes to cleaner air, better urban mobility and a more sustainable Odisha,” Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said.
CRUT Managing Director Md Siddique Alam said this recognition reinforces Odisha’s ongoing efforts to accelerate the electrification of public transport.
“With the continued expansion of electric bus services, charging infrastructure and digital mobility solutions, we are working towards making public transport cleaner, more efficient and accessible for citizens,” Alam said.
