Bhubaneswar: Two persons were taken into custody by the police for allegedly harassing a young tourist couple on their way to the hill shrine of Kapilash in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.
Police registered a case and nabbed the two accused, taking cognisance of a video shared widely on social media. Sources said the incident took place on an isolated stretch of a road leading to the famous Shiva temple atop the lush green Kapilash hills.
The video purportedly showed some people intercepting the bike-borne couple and assaulting the man, with the woman shouting for help. The veracity of the video is yet to be ascertained.
An FIR has been registered at Gondia Police Station in connection with the video circulated on social media and investigation is underway, PTI quoted Dhenkanal Superintendent of Police Abhinav Sonkar as saying.
Two persons have been detained based on the preliminary investigation and further action will be taken after getting prima facie evidence against them, he said.
This incident took place days after the shocking assault on a minor boy and girl in Bihar’s Jamui. Police on Monday arrested three people and launched a search for others allegedly involved in the harassment of the two minors.
