New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India Gyanesh Kumar a day after the Indian Express reported that the two other Election Commissioners — Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi — had raised objections to discrepancies in the SIR process multiple times.
“The Election Commission is the institutional protector of the vote. It is their responsibility to protect the vote. And everything arises from there. If the vote is destroyed, the Constitution does not function, laws are illegal and institutions mean nothing,” the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha said during a press conference on Thursday.
Rahul also trained his guns on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Please understand what these two gentlemen are saying. They are saying that the vote does not exist in India anymore. They are also saying the man they believe is responsible for the vote not existing in India, Mr. Gyanesh Kumar, has been appointed by the Prime Minister of India. The reason nothing happened to all their letters was that there was a protector or protectors of Mr. Gyanesh Kumar sitting on top of him, namely the Prime Minister of India, the Home Minister,” Rahul claimed.

He pointed to a slide that showed alleged conspirators, with pictures of Modi, Home minister Amit Shah and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, among others. Below them were “pawns”, whose pictures included prominent journalists and filmmakers.
“We are saying that the truth of the Indian electoral system has been revealed, and there is enough material that we have that will leave absolutely no doubt in your minds that this is the case. We are sitting in a place as a country where we have never been sitting before. Since 1947, we have never been sitting in this place, which is that our elections are fundamentally broken. The laws that have been passed by Parliament are open to question because the vote has been destroyed, and the capture of the institutions that has taken place is also open to question,” Rahul said.
“From vote chori comes kanoon chori. Today the vote is gone, the law-making system is gone. If the vote has been stolen, then any law, any institutional change that the lawmakers who have been voted to Parliament through vote chori have made is also illegal,” Rahul said.
“And I am not speaking in the air. I have shown it with proof. Let me tell you, there is already more than enough information to make this 100 per cent certain, not 99 per cent, a 100 per cent certainty, that Indian elections, Lok Sabha elections, 2024 elections and Vidhan Sabha elections are all being rigged.”
Rahul questioned how the BJP is not affected by anti-incumbency.
“I come from a political family, and I have spent more than 50 years in a political family. In India, there is a fundamental force called anti-incumbency that very quickly starts to resist any government. It does not spare anybody,” he said.
“Indira Gandhi won the Bangladesh war, was at the height of her popularity, and then suddenly, within a year or two, massive anti-incumbency, massive pressure. The same exact thing happens to leader after leader after leader. Happens to Congress leaders; it happens to regional parties, but for some reason, it never happens to Mr Narendra Modi, does not happen to Mr Shah, does not happen to the BJP,” Rahul added.
Calling Gyanesh Kumar a “deshdrohi”, Rahul demanded his immediate resignation.
“Because these are the truths. A person who attacks the vote, who fundamentally destroys India’s democratic institution, is nothing other than a traitor. You cannot give him any other word. That’s the word.”
“Not just attack on vote, it’s the attack on the expression of every Indian,” Rahul went on.
“Everything will be black and white in the coming six months,” Rahul said.
