Bhubaneswar: All government, government-aided and private schools will remain closed on Saturday (September 26) because of heavy rainfall alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Local administrations in Kataka, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Nuapada districts issued orders to this effect on Friday.
Also, 399 schools under seven blocks in Bhadrak district will remain shut on September 26 as per an order issued by the Bhadrak Collector and District Magistrate.
The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall on September 26 in some places of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada and Nabarangpur districts.
As for Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri, the IMD has predicted heavy rainfall on Saturday.
“The depression over south Chhattisgarh and adjoining south interior Odisha moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 13 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centered at 1730 hrs IST as of 25th September 2026 over north Chhattisgarh, near latitude 22.0°N and longitude 82.2°E, close to south-southeast of Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh), about 50 km west of Champa (Chhattisgarh), 90 km south-southeast of Pendra Road (Chhattisgarh) and 270 km south of Sidhi (Madhya Pradesh),” IMD said in its bulletin at 5.30 pm on Friday.
“It is very likely to move north-northwestwards towards southeast Uttar Pradesh across north Chhattisgarh & northeast Madhya Pradesh as a depression till evening of 26th September. Continuing to move further north-northwestwards, it is very likely to weaken gradually into a well marked low pressure area during subsequent 12 hours. The system is under continuous surveillance by the Doppler Weather Radars at Sambalpur & Raipur.”
