Pune/Goa: The last rites of veteran actor Nana Patekar will be conducted at his farmhouse in Donje village near Pune, his son Malhar Patekar said.
Patekar’s body is currently in Goa, where authorities are completing the mandatory post-mortem and other formalities. Once the formalities are over, his mortal remains will be taken to Pune for cremation.
Family Finalises Funeral Venue
The family has chosen the actor’s farmhouse as the venue for his final rites, as reported by DNA. The timing of the cremation is expected to be announced later.
Patekar’s mortal remains may also be kept in Pune to allow relatives, colleagues and admirers to pay their last respects before the funeral. The Maharashtra government has announced that the actor will be accorded a state funeral in recognition of his contribution to Marathi and Hindi cinema.
Actor Dies Of Cardiac Arrest
Nana Patekar died at around 5:20 a.m. on Thursday after suffering a severe cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. He was rushed to Manipal Hospital, where doctors performed CPR for nearly 45 minutes but were unable to revive him.
A medico-legal case has been registered, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the precise cause of death. Dr Shekhar Salkar, chief of the oncology department at Manipal Hospital, said the procedure would be carried out as part of the formalities.
Patekar, 75, built a celebrated career spanning Hindi and Marathi cinema. Known for his intense performances, he appeared in several critically acclaimed films over the course of his career. News of his death has led to tributes from members of the film industry and fans.
