New Delhi: An Indian national who was injured in the attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport died on Sunday, the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia said.
Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi identified him as Mohammad Yousuf Ali, whose wife and two children were also injured.
“His son is undergoing knee surgery, another son is in the hospital and 3 of his toes have been cut off. His daughter and wife are safe. His aunt (chachi) was with them, and suffered injuries to the head but is out of danger,” Owaisi posted on X.
Expressing grief, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar assured the family of assistance from the Indian mission at Riyadh.
The Indian Embassy is in touch with the family, and will help arrange early repatriation of Yousuf’s body.
Saturday’s strike by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels was the third attack on Riyadh’s international airport in a week.
Earlier on Sunday, the Embassy said at least 11 Indians were among those injured in the latest attack, which left 12 people dead and more than 300 wounded.
Renewed warnings to airlines, travellers
The Houthis have renewed warnings to airlines, travellers and airport workers, advising them to avoid Saudi airports and airspace.
“We renew our warning to all airlines, experts, employees, workers and travellers against using Saudi airports and airspace, as they are vulnerable to attack and have become a theatre of operations for our forces, with the exception of the airports in (the holy cities of) Mecca and Medina,” the Houthis said in a post on X.
“We urge everyone to take our warnings seriously, and Saudi Arabia bears responsibility for any failed interceptions.”
