Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Friday arrested the principal of Government ITI, Balangir for taking Rs 30,000 as bribe from guest instructors of the institute.
Suresh Kumar Dalabehera, the accused, had allegedly sought an amount of Rs 1,15,000 from nine guest instructors for continuation of their jobs and receipt of salary regularly.
He threatened to get them disengaged if they failed to pay the bribe amount.
The guest instructors then approached the Odisha Vigilance and lodged a formal complaint.
A plan was hatched by Vigilance officials to trap Dalabehera. The instructors asked him to meet them at a specified location for handing over the first instalment of the bribe amount. Dalabehera reached the Balangir railway station to meet the instructors, only to be nabbed by Vigilance personnel.
The bribe money of Rs 30,000 handed over to Dalabehera was recovered from his possession and seized.
Searches are being conducted at three locations linked to Dalabehera to unearth possible disproportionate asset amassed by him, a Vigilance officer said.
Sambalpur Vigilance Police has registered a case against Dalabehera under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
