Bhubaneswar: The entire western Odisha will get respite from the sweltering heat wave in the next 24 hours, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in an evening release on Saturday.

“A cyclonic circulation lies over Bihar and neighbourhood extending up to 0.9 km above the mean sea level. Besides, a trough line runs from Bihar to south Chhattisgarh at 0.9 km above the mean sea level while another north-south trough line has formed at 1.5 km above mean sea level. The trough line stretching from north interior Odisha to Comorin area across south Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Rayalaseema and interior Tamil Nadu has become less marked. Under its influence, light rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of  Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Khurda, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendrapada for five days up to May 16,” it added.

Besides, the IMD also has issued thunderstorm and lightning warning at one or two places in the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Sundargarh and Keonjhar on May 12, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh and Balasore on May 13, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Bolangir, Boudh, Sonepur, Sundargarh and Keonjhar on May 14, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Keonjhar Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Dhenkanal and Cuttack on May 15 and Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jajpur and Kendrapada on May 16.

The release also said that Titlagarh was the hottest place in the state for the second consecutive day at 44.6 degree Celsius while the temperature rose to 40 degrees and above at 11 places in Angul (41.1), Jharsuguda (44.4), Keonjhar (41.8), Sambalpur (43.5), Sundargarh (42), Hirakud (43.2), Talcher  (42.1), Bhawanipatna (43.5), Balangir (44.5), Malkangiri (41.2) and Sonepur (43.4).

Besides, temperature also remained close to 40 degree Celsius in Baripada (39), Balasore (38.4) and Chandbali (39.4).

Though the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded below 40 degrees, the intense humidity made the lives of the denizens miserable.
