Volunteers of Bakul spread joy during Daan Utsav

Bhubaneswar: Volunteers of city-based Bakul Children Library celebrated Daan Utsav or Joy of Giving Week at orphanages, old age homes and slums to spread joy and learning on Monday.

Volunteers in groups conducted several workshops on art and craft, clay modelling, story telling and dance sessions for underprivileged children in their respective cities, including Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

As many as 60 children of Madhurmayee Ashram for children of jail inmates played with clay and created different shapes with well-known sculptor Smrutikanta Rout and Bakul team.

At RSSO, Mural artist Dibyush Jena led the children and volunteers in painting the boundary wall of the institution. At Nilapadia Basti near Damana, dancer Harihar Dash and actress Anubha Sourya engaged 100-odd children.

Inmates of Asha Kiran orphanage at Niladri Vihar here enjoyed a lively and fun-filled story telling session conducted by journalist and anchor Prachitara followed by craft and dance session by students of KIIMS.

At the Bakul Library in Cuttack, Odia cinema diector Basanta Sahoo interacted with children after the screening of his film.

The Daan Utsav or the Joy of Giving Week is a national festival of giving being celebrated every year from October 2 to 8. This year, the Day of Service is being celebrated not only in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Sambalpur but also in Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad and other cities.
