Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued extremely heavy rainfall warning for 14 districts of Odisha as the deep depression crossed the state’s northern coast in the afternoon.

“The deep depression over north-west Bay of Bengal close to north Odisha West Bengal coasts on Wednesday morning, moved in the north-north-west direction with a speed of about 13 kmph in last six hours and crossed north Odisha and West Bengal coasts close to north of Balasore between 1.30 pm and 2.30 pm and lay over the north coastal Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal close to Balasore about 170 km south-east of Jamshedpur. It is very likely to move in the west-north-west direction and weaken gradually into a depression during next 24 hours,” the IMD said in a mid-day bulletin.

Besides, strong winds speed reaching 30-40 kmph with gusting to 50 kmph will also blow over the interior areas of Odisha on Wednesday.
